My
goal is your pet's optimum health and — just
like people — dental care plays a critical role. Unlike people,
it's not often possible to replace lost teeth, so our aim is to identify
and stop the progression of periodontal disease before it comes to
tooth loss.
I always do a dental exam at each and every physical exam. Why?
The earlier a dental problem is identified, the less expensive
and involved it will be for you, and the less disease your pet
will suffer.
What exactly is periodontal disease?
To help you understand this common disease, we have listed the
standard grading system for periodontal disease in dogs and cats.
Each stage corresponds to the images pictured.
- 0. No signs of plaque or calculus.
- 1. Early Gingivitis
- 2. Advanced Gingivitis
- 3. Early Periodontitis
- 4. Advanced Periodontitis
Each stage of periodontal disease has criteria for treatment and
prognosis. Let's be sure to talk about the stages and what needs
to be done to keep your pet's health tip top!
